Dutch Lady Malaysia calls for local mothers to work hand in hand with nutrition to support children's development. No. 1 formulated milk powder for children, Dutch lady Nutri Plan with 5X DHA gathered a paedetric exper and local mother, including TV host, actress and new mom, Scha Alyahya to discuss the importance of morther's nurturing guidance and tailored nutrition to support a child's overall development from 1 to over 6 years old.
Titled Dutch Lady & Mom, Step by Step Together, the event highlighted through interactive activities how mothers can correspond their guidance to the various developmental milestones and nutritional needs of their children to help them optimise their learning and development. I went to the event with my two kids to learn more about them.. and of cos to watch the video for our shooting that day..hihi
Speaking to media and mothers at the event, Ashlee Ng, Marketing Director of Dutch Lady Malaysia, said it is important for mothers to understand that their nurturing guidance and growing up milk’s nutrition need to go hand in hand to ensure the progressive development of a child.

“Dutch Lady 4-Step Nutri-Plan with 5X DHA* is a nutrition programme for children 1 to 6 years of age that continuously supports a child’s developmental milestones and learning. When nutritional needs are well taken care of, mothers can focus on guiding their children to achieve foundation milestones that will help shape their future development and learning achievements at school, in the family and life in general,” she added.
On ways to complement nutritional support with nurturing guidance, Dutch Lady Malaysia corporate nutritionist Loo Mei Fong explained, “Adequate nutrition in early life of a child is important for optimal brain development and cognitive functions. According to child development specialists, the first five years of a child's life are fundamentally important, because that is when the brain develops more and faster than at any other period in life.”
In general, children go through four different smart milestones in their developmental journey. Dutch Lady 4-Step Nutri Plan with 5X DHA* offers a total nutrition programme, formulated with tailored nutrients to support each milestone, and mothers are encouraged to guide their children according to the milestones.
During the event, Dutch Lady also brings the children and their parents from the Tadika Kemas to explore more the nurturing guidance for the kids.

So here is the 4 stage for the children accordingly :
At ages 1 to 2, children’s curiosity begins to grow. They start observing, grasping, playing and pointing. An important requirement for these activities is vision. They need nutrients such as Inositol, Taurine, and Vitamin A to support their visual development.
As children at this stage are attracted to bright colours, mothers are encouraged to name and describe the colour or shape of objects that the child showed interest in, such as a goldfish is orange in colour, and a red ball is round.
At Curious Zone, mothers were guiding the kids to identify the colours and shapes referring to a colour & shape chart.
At ages 2 to 4, children become more active and start exploring their surroundings. They begin to understand why things are the way they are by tasting and touching them again and again which challenges their natural body resistance. They need nutrition, such as Selenium and Zinc that helps support their immunity and prevent them from falling ill.
There are many benefits when children explore their surrounding environment as they get to learn about the things they encounter. Mothers can inculcate exploring as a form of learning by discovering nature together with their children. Check out plants and insects you can find in your own garden or a neighborhood park.
My two kids is in the explore stage. Both of them are really aggressive exploring things surround them. Even though it such a heart attack and headache sometimes but usually ignore what they want to do. But it is already off limit there of cos a punishment for them.. haha.. Still you can really stop they to explore things, it will actually reduce their growing up and learning progress. In this stage, I do tend to brought them go out to let them explore new things.
At Explore Zone, the kids were excited to touch, stroke and feed the animals such as rabbit, guinea pig and chicks.
At ages 4 to 6, children become more creative and imaginative. They begin to use creativity as a form of problem solving, which requires adaptability and flexibility of thought. Nutrients such as Tyrosine, Choline, and Vitamin D help to support flexible thinking in their brain function.
Mothers can help children express their creativity by showing them how to draw and colour things they imagine or provide building blocks with simple instructions for them to follow. Moms will be surprised with what their children can come up with!
At Create Zone, the kids were having fun expressed their creativity by building their own robot and masterpiece using loose boxes and toy building blocks.
At ages 6 years and above, focus and good memory skills are important for children at school. They begin to learn important social and verbal skills and they also require focus and memory skills to help them learn. Magnesium is an important nutrient to support a child’s memory skills.
Doing homework or helping with household chores can be boring for a child. But when a time challenge is set for the task, the child gets excited and becomes more focused on the task in hand. Set a time limit the next time you get your child to help fold clean laundry or complete his school work.
At Learn Zone, mothers were guiding the kids to answer 10 simple questions that are flashed on a screen.
Paediatric consultant, Dr. Yong Junina Fadzil who was present at the event, advised mothers to spend time interacting with their children. “Besides providing the appropriate nutrition for the various stages of development, your child also needs positive interactions with you beyond the basic daily routine. Listen to a curious child when he asks questions and respond to them by asking him what he thinks. Discover the world with your explorative child and learn about things in his world, even if it means more physical activity. Start an art project at home to help your creative child express more. No child is naturally good at school work, get in there and guide him as much as you can. Positive interactions with your child like these allows you to bond, help her feel secure and supports her overall development.
Dr.Yong really give a good advised to us mother on how to be more positive when dealing with our kids and people surround you. Dr. Yong said she manage to finished her Master with her two kids and even though our Master journey is not the same, I also managed to finished my Master on time with my two kids. It was a very challenging process, where I have to go a Proposal Defense during confinement and two kids was too young. Alhamdulillah, I manage to grad on time and it was a great experience for me as a mother.

Other mother that also sharing her stories is Scha Alyahya. Scha Alyahya who spends most of her time off-work with her 2-year-old daughter, Lara, could not agree more with Dr. Yong Junina’s advice. Besides giving Lara Dutch Lady Nutri Plan CURIOUS, Scha also ensures she is with her daughter whenever she can to guide her learning as she grows.
“Lara’s nutritional needs are important for me and I am glad that Dutch Lady Nutri Plan with 5X DHA* has the necessary nutrients to support her progressive development and a total programme to follow through till she is at formal schooling age, which leaves me the time and energy to focus on her other developmental needs,” said Scha.

“She loves colourful objects and being with her helps her express her interest to me, which in turn prompts me to explain to her things that she observes and are interested in. It’s a connection that we share. She is going into the EXPLORE stage now and both her father and I are very excited to play and discover things together with her,” she exclaimed.
Meanwhile, Loo also pointed out the importance for mothers to continue to include milk in their children’s diet to ensure they enjoy optimum nutritional support throughout their growing years. She highlighted a finding from Southeast Asian Nutrition Survey (SEANUTS), which indicated Malaysian children are dropping off from milk as early as 1+ years old and they are not getting enough calcium from their daily diet.***
“It is natural that children drink less milk as they start to consume solid food. However, milk continues to be an important source of nutrients that supports a child’s overall development. We encourage mothers to provide milk and ensure their children continue to consume milk, so that they can receive the best support they can have to optimize their development from 1 to 6+ years old; and it is very easy with Dutch Lady’s total nutrition programme for children,” she said.
Indeed, whenever my kids don't have the appetite to eat I will ensure they to drink more milk. It really helps them to gain the energy and have all the nutrition needed from the food.
