Tips for Raising Resilient Kids. | Raising resilient kids definitely challenging for me. Every child is different, and my kids also have a different manner. For me, Zahra is an independent girl and know how to solve things as per instruction, but Fateh totally upside down.

This challenge sometimes makes me angry everytime I ask him to do things and definitely makes him sad everytime I scold him. These bad habits is not good for child development. Is not easy to raise resilient kids, and here is some tips I get for us to learn how to do it;

1. Don’t accommodate every need.

Go explore!

Learning from my experience, Zahra is more resilient because she is my first born and as young as 1 year 3 months old she already had a brother. She didn't get much attention, therefore she figure things herself. So whenever we try to provide certainty and comfort, we are getting in the way of children being able to develop their own problem-solving and mastery. It seems that overprotecting kids only fuels their anxiety, like my son Fateh who have been pampered too much by her granny and he intends to give excuse when I asked to do things.

2. Avoid eliminating all risk.

Let them fall!

This is actually a basic things when we want our kids to be resilient even though we always want them to be safe. As someone who we raised to be independence, I tend to let my kid does what they want and of course with my observation. The key is to allow appropriate risks and teach your kids essential skills. By giving kids age-appropriate freedom helps them learn their own limits, parent have to have more faith on them.

3. Teach them to solve problem.

DIY things!

Solving problems is crucial for kids in order them to be resilient. Parents need to teach them how to solve the problem rather than we as parents to solve their problems. If your kids didn't know how to do it, you teach them and please don't do their works. I always encourage my children to work things out and really upset if someone trying to solve their problem. You'll never learn if you don't even try, right?

In other words, engage your child in figuring out how they can handle challenges. Give them the opportunity, over and over, “to figure out what works and what doesn’t.” Let them make mistakes and don't provide them the answers immediately.

4. Avoid talking in catastrophic terms.

Be Brave!

In parenthood, sometimes parents tend to make mistakes with how they communicate with their children. It is important to define every act that you wanted your children do's or dont's. Pay attention to what you say to your kids and around them. Anxious parents, in particular, tend to talk very catastrophically around their children. For instance, you saying "Don't go there, there's monster in the bush", instead you should say "Don't go there, it is not safe and you might yourself with torn plant".

Avoid making your kids afraid to do things, their anxiety will be greater.

5. Model resiliency.
